Hi! I’m Faith, I’m a senior at Bowie and I am one of the Editor-in-Chief’s of The Dispatch! As an Editor-in-Chief, it is my goal to keep producing amazing content even through virtual learning and keep the Bowie community informed! This is my third year on the newspaper staff, and I am so excited for another year. I will be writing the stories for and designing pages eight and nine of the paper. In my free time, I enjoy watching horror movies, reading classic novels, buying unhealthy amounts of clothes online, making jewelry, and eating lots of Kerbey Queso with my friends. My dream is to study in the Pacific Northwest to become an English teacher.

Alia E. Dastagir, a New York National correspondent, wrote that “it is a difficult time to celebrate America” in an article published by USA Today in July of 2020. Dastagir questioned what it means to be an American, who qualifies, and how Americans should act and found that, despite political polarization in the U.S., 90 percent of people surveyed in a 2018 Grinnell College National poll agreed that being a “real American” meant treating people equally.

AISD Superintendent Paul Cruz presents the Board Action Items for the AISD Trustee Meeting on Thursday, August 6. On Thursday, August 6, Principal Mark Robinson announced a two phase reopening policy for the Fall semester. I took this photo while on a cruise in Alaska. I took an excursion on a small ferry in Juneau where I got to see glaciers and Alaska marine life up close. The land surrounding the river was very mountainous and foggy, and I even got to see a mother bear with two of her cubs.

Austin Independent School District decided to postpone all its school’s graduation dates due to precautions of COVID-19. Bowie’s graduation will now be held at the Frank Erwin Center on Wednesday, August 12 at 7 p.m.

On April 21 and April 22, the Lyrids Meteor Shower will be at its peak. Although the Lyrids is an average shower that produces only around 20 meteors per hour, seeing it will be amazing for me because I have never seen a meteor shower before. Since there was a new moon on April 8, the night sky should be well lit and make the meteor shower easy to see. The meteors will make trails of dust behind them that can last several seconds. The best place to see the Lyrids Meteor Shower will be at a dark place after midnight.
