Kickball Club was started by the cheerleaders. When practice ended, cheerleaders would play kickball. They wanted these after-school kickball sessions to last longer so they created kickball club. It was a way for the cheerleaders to continue playing and having fun outside of the class where they had the opportunity for more time.

“We played it at the end of class on Friday and the cheerleaders wanted to continue this after school so that they would have more time to play,” Cheer coach Amie Roggerman said.

Kickball club occurs after school, every other week. It was created this past year in the spring.  The number of kids usually stayed the same because kickball club was created so the cheerleaders would be able to have extended time to play, so it is the mostly the cheerleaders who are actually in the club. They would continue playing on the field after school.

“ We would play kickball at the end of class on Friday every other week, and the cheer students wanted more time [to play],” Roggerman said. The number of kids usually stayed the same because it was mostly the cheerleader who are the ones wanting more time.”

The most enjoyable thing for the coach is to see her cheerleaders having fun and connecting with one another.

“My favorite part of kickball club is being able to see kids be kids, and watching them laugh together and have fun together.  I think that kickball club is a good way for them to enjoy each other,” Roggerman said.

For the cheerleaders, the most enjoying thing about kickball club is being able to have more time after school and to continue playing and having a good time. It is a good way for them to get their mind off of things and to just play. The cheerleaders connect during kickball club learn to just relax and have fun.

“I think that they really just enjoy being able to play after school. It is a good opportunity for them to be able to hang out with each other,” Roggerman said. “To be able to relax and not think about much is pretty refreshing for them.”

Overall, kickball club has helped cheerleader have a good bond and has helped them learn to enjoy each other and relax. Kickball club is a good experience for the cheerleaders and will continue to bring the team closer together.

“The cheerleaders have really enjoyed kickball club so far and in the future will be continuing to keep going and keep having fun together,” Roggerman said.
