April Fool’s: The absolute worst

Robbie Warhola, Online Staff Writer

Oh the one day a year where we’re not supposed to believe anything we hear. I hate it, I really do, why can’t it just be another day in the year. We shouldn’t need a day specifically to prank people, they’ll learn to expect it and adapt to it.

Especially announcements by major companies to throw off consumers, those are absolutely the worst. Those people that feel the need to prank others specifically on this day play into the whole problem that is April Fool’s Day. Pranking should be done when someone unsuspecting will be completely taken by surprise. However, on this day, it should be expected that someone will try something at some point.

I dislike this day so much and the fake products that are announced by businesses to capitalize on fooling their consumers with free advertising. When more people hear about a product announced on April first, they naturally tell their friends about this fake advertisement and the company then gets free advertising.

In some cases, companies do take the ideas and turn them into real things. For example, in 2014 Google released an advertisement that allowed the user to go out in the world and catch pokemon. Then, two whole years later, the game was released and was a commercial success.

But, no matter what crazy ideas are turned into products, my opinion still stands, I hate this day for the lame and overused antics used by companies to snatch free advertising and in addition to that, the lame and overused pranks attempted on people are just silly and ridiculous in the worst sense.
