Free Physicals at Bowie

Doctor offices swarm with people and forms waiting for their pass to the new season. For many months kids fill the doctor’s office to get their physical for the next sports season but with this responsibility comes an expensive that not all athletes can afford.

Physicals are required to tryout for any spots at both. Through the collaboration of Dell Children’s, Travis County Medical, and Austin ISD Bowie has a way to include all students and make sure they have the opportunity as everyone does. The trainers are holding a free physicals day at Burger Stadium on 4/25 at 4:30pm, trainer Brittani Thibodeaux explained.

“This is a district wide event that takes place every year. It is for uninsured and underinsured individuals in the district,” Thibodeaux said.

Physicals are expensive, junior and former athlete Aoife Harriman explains, and this program was supposed to provide an equal opportunity for everyone to be able to participate.

“I think this program could make an impact because there are probably a lot of kid athletes who came to this school before this happened and couldn’t participate in sports they loved and now they have something that they can actually participate in which is pretty cool,” Harriman said.

Junior Jessica Lund thinks this program is a great start to help even the field for everyone in all areas in school.

“I think more programs like this should be created to help give all kids equal opportunities,” Lund said.
