Thursday September 3, the swim and dive team went to the annual King and Queen of Springs event and competed.

“The team didn’t train at all together but I swam with a club called Nitro throughout the summer and went for runs when I had extra time,” said sophomore Jake Mickelson.

The race began with a 5K run that started at Deep Eddy pool and ended at Barton Springs were the team then swam for 800 meters to be crowned.

“I wasn’t really that nervous because I didn’t think I had a shot to win but I was excited because I had a lot of fun in the race last year even though I didn’t win,” Mickelson said.

It was the same route as the previous year so returning swimmers felt more comfortable.

“I had a better feel for the route we went on and I knew how to pace myself better for the race,” Mickelson said. “It took me 26 minutes.”

Once the race was over Jake Mickelson was crowned as King, and Ariana Eads was crowned as Queen for the second year in a row!

“It felt great because I wasn’t really expecting to win and it kind of took a little to process with me,” Mickelson said.
