Bowie High School has a system in place that is called Flexible Instruction Time (FIT). ITt is a flex time to talk to teachers, finish work, etc. It has been proven successful and even serves as a break from your stressful classes. However, what if there were multiple FIT times?
I am personally a fan of this concept because it would allow students to finish more work and have another break from in class lessons. Homework would almost become non-existent. Assignments and projects would have less stress and the feeling of having to study at home would not happen as much.
Having one FIT session is nice, but having two would increase productivity and give students more leeway. Not every student wants to work at home. Most people want to watch TV shows or a football game. Especially on a Friday night when the Bulldogs play Austin High with playoffs on the line.
Students want to be carefree when they’re hanging out with their friends. No being concerned about an assignment that’s due at the end of the night. Double FIT could help solve these issues.
Another thing that double FIT could help with is giving teachers more time to grade in school. Teachers sometimes have to spend time in class to grade assignments. Having another FIT session would give teachers more flex time to grade. This allows them to put full effort into lessons.
On the contrary some people might not want double FITbecause it would make the school day longer. People have places to be after school and extending the day by 35 minutes could affect their life outside of school. This is a very understanding argument. Some people might just feel like the days would take forever.
However I think that the time spent at home doing homework is worse. This is because once you are home you feel like doing absolutely nothing. School work is the last thing you want to do. This causes students to procrastinate and never end up doing their work till it’s the last day to submit. When you are already in an environment where learning happens it’s easier to not get distracted.
In conclusion I believe that having double FITs would be beneficial to Bowie High School. Work would be completed in a timely manner, stress would be relieved, and a small price of thirty five minutes would make life that much easier.
