From December 4 to 7, the Bowie Bulldogs boys’ basketball team hosted a tournament in both gyms. Multiple Austin-area teams participated, including the reigning TAPPS 6A state champions, St. Michael’s Prep. With a strong team effort, the Dawgs started with a 1-0 win over the Reagan Rattlers. The final score was 66-55 in favor of Bowie.
“I think the tournament went great,” Senior Derrick Osobase said. “It was a great display of what we can achieve as a team.”
The ‘Dawgs continued to dominate the tournament, eventually winning their next two games against LBJ Austin and Cedar Ridge High School. In their match against LBJ, Bowie’s performance kept up and outscored the Jaguars by nearly thirty points.
“The tournament was a great experience for our team,” Junior Joshua Baskin said. “I

believe we are finally starting to get back as a team. After getting our players back from injury, I feel that we are doing the right things to prepare for upcoming district play.”
This was the Bowie boys basketball team’s second tournament of the season, and the players showed immense improvement from their first. The Bulldogs remained undefeated and even took down St. Michael’s Prep, which had just come off from a near-perfect season and a state championship.
“I think we played really well as a team throughout the tournament,” Senior Luke Ashby said. “The hardest game was definitely the championship against St. Michael’s. We persevered and played together and came out with a win.”
The Boys varsity team was predominantly led by Seniors Luke Ashby, Lamin Jabbi, Derrick Osobase, and Junior Joshua Baskin. Bowie took down the Warriors in their final game with a buzzer-beater layup from Ashby.
“Our toughest game was against St. Mikes,” Osobase said. “We pushed through and beat one of the top teams in Texas.”
