Girls Soccer Summer Camp

During summer break, Bowie is holding a girls’ strengthening and conditioning camp to help athletes stay in shape and further improve their athletic abilities. Run by Coach Vickie Benson and other Bowie coaches, the camp lasts from June 11 to July 26.

By running and going to the weight room every day, the athletes are able to increase their speed, endurance, strength, and get in better shape overall.

“I thought it was very beneficial,” sophomore Lilly Yeager said. “It keeps me active, it helps with sports and staying healthy, it kept me busy during summer, and it was another way to see my friends.”

Along with staying in shape, the camp helped athletes improve their abilities in sports as well.

“It helped with building strength and preventing injuries in the weight room,” Yeager said. “It also helped increase my speed and endurance, which carried over to the soccer field.”

Several successful Bowie athletes previously attended the camp.

“My speed improved from all the running and weight lifting we did for our legs,” said freshman Abbey Smith. “This helped me make Varsity in track and softball freshman year.”

About 30 girls attended the camp last year, but many athletes are hoping more sign up for this summer.

“The camp was definitely better on days more people showed up because we were able to do more,” Smith said.
