Smash four, the party game of despair or victory. Invite a few friends over, plug in those GameCube controllers into your Wii U and choose your fighter. With the new Super Smash Brothers game being announced for the Nintendo Switch, many Smash four gamers are hyped and waiting for more information.

“I watched the Nintendo Direct and the whole thing was pretty good with the release date and trailer for Dark Souls 3 being shown,” Sophomore Josh Houdek said. “I think that the smash trailer at the end was well worth the two hour Nintendo Direct.”

While Nintendo is unloading mass amounts of ports unto the Nintendo Switch playerbase, many like Sophomore Gray Cunningham suspect that this game is going to be more than just a port.

“I think that the announced Super Smash Bros will be a completely new game because if it is just a port then the inklings would have to be dlc characters that are released for the DS and Wii U versions of the game as well,” Cunningham said. “I am really hoping that it is a brand new game though.”

Fans like Houdek believe that although this new version of Smash is coming out that the other games such as melee and Smash four will retain their relevance.

“I don’t think that the new Smash game will become the most popular because more people have Wii U’s for Smash four and Game Cubes for Smash Melee,” Houdek said. “Super Smash Bros Melee has been the biggest and most competitive game in the Smash series.”
