Bowie football players energetically charge out to the Burger stadium field just before the opening kick-off to the game. The homecoming game win launched the team into play-offs with a record of 9-1.

The Dawgs have continued to keep their nearly perfect record in district with a resounding victory over Anderson on Nov. 1 for the homecoming game.
With a score of 35-14 they locked their spot in the playoffs and played against Cedar Ridge on Nov. 15 at 7:30 at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex who was 7-3 in the district.
“The homecoming game was an amazing experience for us. The fact that it was our last guaranteed game at the Burger Center made it even more special for the seniors. I’m very happy that we won. It was a great memory I’ll never forget,” senior captain Tyler Walker said.
The team had very high expectations for the way they were going to play during the homecoming game according to senior Pedro Martinez.
“On top of winning, we wanted to start building some momentum going into playoffs and start to really click as a whole and that’s exactly what we did. It was pretty exciting having a large crowd and winning for our community,” Martinez said.
Along with winning a great game, the team experienced another win when senior Keith McAlonan was crowned homecoming king along with senior Audrey Baker as the homecoming queen.
“I had faith in our team that we would play to the best of our ability and the hard work paid off. And I have to say that it was exciting in the locker room to hear one of the other players won king,” senior Joseph Lewright said.
McAlonan was congratulated by his teammates after he was crowned king.
“Winning the game was important for the team. It gave us a great chance of making a deep run in the playoffs this year but at halftime once I found out I won I was extremely happy,” McAlonan said. “Being elected from my peers means a lot to me. It was just an honor to be in the homecoming court and once my name was called I was really surprised.”
Senior captain Clayton Law and Lewright think that if the team stays focused that they will hopefully become state champions.

“It feels good that we’ve done so well all season to earn a good spot in the playoffs. Now we just have to keep winning and see how far we can go,” Lewright said.
Law and Lewright both give credit to the student body, teachers, and administrators for their support in cheering them on and keeping them going throughout each game. According to Law, the school has the best and most excited student section in our district.
“The school support is unreal. Looking up into the stands at the Westlake game, I can’t even describe the feeling of seeing a packed stadium like that and playing in front of them,” Lewright said.
The team continues to stay focused despite the fame they have earned from keeping second place lead in the district with a record of 9-1.
“Before all the games all I think about are my plays and what I have to do to win,” Law said.
The football team as a whole is getting ready for playoffs by practicing and focusing on the next game they have to play and not thinking about anything else.
“I’m excited to be able to continue playing past regular season and the ‘life or death’ like thrill that comes with every game is incredible and scary at the same time,” Lewright said.
Last year, the team only played two games in the playoffs, but is shooting to go further this year and prove that the Dawgs are ready to fight.
“I think that we have done better this year because we have better team chemistry. We also have focused more on our games,” Law said.
The team thinks that going to the playoffs is going to be a great experience for the community, school, and team.
“All summer, all season, our coaches have been talking about this season being special and as a team, I feel we have bought in completely to make to make it deep in the playoffs and ultimately making it to state for the first time in Bowie history,” Martinez said.
