Pencils writing on paper, ideas flowing through the brain. Writing club is a club that includes creative writing. The club meets every Wednesday after school until 5:30 in room A129 or room A123.

“Writing club is a group for kids that like creative writing,” sophomore Elizabeth Markert said. “ We have fun with free writes, prompts, and collaborative writing games.

The club has multiple leaders that help out with making sure the club works out smoothly. There’s a president and a few officers that help out with the club.

“I’m the president of the writing club. I created it with the help of two of my friends, Clare and Haley,” Markert said. “I plan and run the meetings with the other officers.”

The other important role other than the president is the co-president. The co-president role is occupied by junior Haley Harris.

“ My role in writing club is officer and co-president,” Harris said.” I help plan and run the meetings as well as coordinating food and activities in the club.”

Harris explains one of her favorite parts of the club.

“My favorite parts of the club is when we do collaborative writing activities and games because you really get to see how amazing students’ minds are and what we can make when we come together,” said Harris. “It’s also tons of fun to see the some of the crazy things we come up with.”

Writing club was created by students and is ran by students.

“The club started with Elizabeth being really inspired seeing so many friends and students finding a passion in writing,” Harris said. “She told me about her idea to start a club and asked if I could help I thought it was amazing and we began working with many teachers for help and were able to get the club up and going.”

Markert explains what they do most days in the club.

“We start with introductions and usually have an icebreaker question,” Markert said. “Then we move on to individual writing time. Everyone gets ten minutes to write something. It doesn’t need to be finished or good, it just needs to be something. We provide two prompts most days. A lot of kids follow the prompts, but some also do free writing. After individual writing, the kids that want to share what they wrote do so. We then do collaborative writing which has taken several forms throughout the duration of the club.”

Harris shares why she thinks students should join the club.

“I think students should join the writing club because it’s an amazing place to share creativity,” Harris said. “ You also get to meet new people who are just excited to create new ideas without stress or pressure.
