People watched as the Volleyball Junior Varsity team played against Hays. On September 28, 6:30 pm, the Junior Volleyball Varsity team went up against Hays and their team, with the audience watching as the Bowie Gymnasium sprung with action.

“We played them previously and lost in three [games], so we took care of them in two [games],” Junior Varsity Volleyball Coach Vickie Benson said.

Madeline Finkenbinder and Eden Reichart are part of the Junior Varsity Volleyball team and were players who played in the September 28th game against Hays.

“[Madeline Finkenbinder and I] love volleyball,” Eden Reichert said.

Madeline, Eden, and the rest of the players’ skills had gotten them a score of  2-1 at the end of the game against Hays, a win for Bowie. This was a step better than the last time the Junior Volleyball Varsity team played against Hays.

“Last year the [Hays’s volleyball team was] really good… It was easier than the first time we played them,” Madeline Finkenbinder said. “I think we improved a lot, and that showed because we beat them in two sets.”

But the Junior Varsity Volleyball players didn’t win against Hays without reason. To Benson, the Junior Volleyball players displayed many factors on why they won.

“We hit the ball well, we played good defense. Everybody brought a lot of energy on the court. We had a lot of confidence in the way we were playing,” Benson said.

According to Coach Benson, the Junior Varsity Volleyball team has improved on their skills this year, since the first time they played against Hays.

“They’ve become better passers, they’re more consistent with hitting and serving and communicating. The setting has [gotten] a lot better,” Benson said.

But the Junior Varsity Volleyball team has not reached their full potential yet. According to Benson, there still always is work needed in the Junior Volleyball Varsity team’s performance, and there is always an open space for improvement.

“Everybody, even professionals, can be better at what they do. I think there is some skill development that still needs to take place for those kids.” Benson said.
