Everyone who ends up in the Good Place deserves endless bliss for the rest of eternity. Except maybe the ones who aren’t supposed to be there. The Good Place is a hit US network show about a woman named Eleanor Shellstrop, played by Kristen Bell; who dies and goes to “The Good Place”. The good place is a “heaven” that people go to after a life full of good deeds and kindness. As Eleanor arrives in the utopia, she is surrounded by people who did amazing things on Earth that got them into The Good Place. This take on what heaven is like makes for a funny show that constantly has plot twists and humorous setbacks.

The Good Place came onto Netflix this fall, and has resulted in a wide fan base loving the comedic show about afterlife. Eleanor Shellstrop knows she doesn’t belong in the good place, and it is revealed in the first episode that “the architect”, Michael who is portrayed by Ted Danson, the creator of that specific neighborhood in the good place, messed up and that Eleanor does not in fact belong in The Good Place. Upon arriving, Eleanor and the other arrivals sit through an initiation, and learn how to live in their new home. In the initiation, the new citizens of the utopia learn that they each have a house designed specifically for them and a soulmate that they were destined to be with. When Eleanor’s soulmate, Chidi Anagonye played by William Jackson Harper, learns of her disgraceful life on Earth, she has to learn how to be generous and earn her spot in the paradise.

Throughout the show, Kristen Bell gives an amazing performance in her role as Eleanor, and perfectly demonstrates a good girl gone bad in reverse. I enjoyed this show because of the character development present, and how diverse all of the characters and lifestyles were. I liked the show’s outlook on what life is like after death, and how they used such a pondered upon topic and made it funny. This show is perfect for those who love laughter and creativity.
