On January 30, 2018 the Historic Landmark Commission approved the demolition of the graffiti park downtown, or known as the HOPE Outdoor Gallery.

From Permit to demolish HOPE Outdoor Gallery graffiti park moves forward from kxan interview, the commission releases the statement “There is no architectural, historical or known archaeological significance…it is a site of value to the community and visitors”

The graffiti park is made on a failed multi-family development from the 80’s. The park is filled with concrete walls with different levels all covered in graffiti from anyone that visits.

“When I heard about the demolition I was really angry. It just made me feel like they are making more room for people, but at the same time they are taking away what makes our city so special,” said

There has been a recently relocated to 9507 Sherman Road on Carson Creek Ranch in east Austin, near the Austin-Bergstrom National Airport.

“This new, evolved art park will be a special place for the community to call their own,” said founder and executive producer of HOPE Events in November, Andi Scull Cheatham.

There is no known timeline for the demolition, but due to community value they have planned on taking pictures of the site.

“The small things in Austin, like the graffiti and strange stores, make the slogan ‘Keep Austin Weird’ so meaningful. But when they take away those weird things away, it takes away the meaningfulness,” sophomore Caden Barrera said.

This site has become a symbol of Austin and has made Austin feel like home to many people.

“Austin is such a nice place and I love living here but when they come in and take away the things that the people actually like, its really annoying and ruins the value of our city,” sophomore Bryan Arriaga said.

Due to the demolishment of the Hope Outdoor Gallery, they will be relocating this set to a new location in Austin.
