Airport Security In Todays Times

Madison Austin, Staff Writer

In a post 9/11 world, airport security has become more rigorous and invasive as the number of terrorist attacks increase. In order to make your flight on time, you need to get there almost two hours early to get through check in, security, and to find your perspective gate. The average wait time to get through security is roughly 30 minutes.

Airport security has become a pain to go through; there are so many rules and regulations that you have to follow just to get to the gate for your flight. Despite this, I believe these precautions are in place to protect the people coming and going.

In the past weeks, an attack against a Florida airport shut down flights for the whole day, displacing thousands of people, even killing 5. Even with all of these safety measures, people with enough determination will still find a way to follow through with their plan to cause chaos and inflict as much pain and suffering as they can.

The TSA hopes to combat these incidents and make them as infrequent as possible with their security measures, making it harder for the ones that wish to harm people while in an airport.

Some the measures being taken are a little excessive, but at the end of the day, would you rather have to wait a little longer to get your gate or have a terrible event transcribe? The measures being taken are there for the safety of the passengers and the flight crews, as well as for everyone else in the airport.

There are ways to bypass the long lines such as the TSA precheck and getting to the airport at an earlier time. The changes that the TSA has made over the past few years have proved to effective in more ways than one in protecting the public.

Long lines, extra security measures and screenings are all worth it in the end if everyone’s flight is safe and prepared to make the final destination safely.
