Since 1959, The United States of America (U.S.A) has had 50 states, number 51 doesn’t seem that far away from what has been happening. In 2019, President Donald J. Trump made a statement hinting at how he wanted to acquire Greenland. In the past couple weeks he has pushed the seemingly “joking” statement into a potential reality. President Trump wants to acquire Greenland for “national security.” He also claims he wants it for his Golden Globe plans, the potential Golden Globe will be a way for the American military to see threats miles before they happen using three layers of defense mechanisms.
President Trump is nuts for even considering the idea of taking over Greenland. For starters, Denmark is a close ally of the U.S and let the U.S place a Space Force base in Greenland. Denmark also has many other allies, so if President Trump were to try and take Greenland with brute force, it might not be as easy as he thinks. The U.S.A has arguably one of if not the strongest military in the world, but Denmark has many allies. As an American myself, I have seen so many memes on the internet trashing Americans for similar reasons. Many people in the world already have a bad picture of Americans, and President Trump is going to ruin our reputation even more if he tries to use the military to take Greenland.
The U.S.A is in no financial state to pay for the Golden Globe. According to the Peter G. Foundation, the USA is roughly 38 trillion dollars in national debt. Every year the U.S government spends more money than it makes. The US is spending money we don’t have on the military while the tax payers of America pay more and more each year with the One, Big, Beautiful, Bill.
If the U.S attempts to invade Greenland, multiple countries have spoken out and said they will stand with Greenland. Greenland is a part of Denmark, and Denmark is a part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, better known as NATO. Just because the U.S is in NATO doesn’t mean they are safe from facing consequences. Countries like the United Kingdom, Sweden, Canada, and France are all big countries that can potentially help aid Denmark.
The people of Greenland have openly stated “we’re not going to sell our soul.” The people of Greenland don’t want to be taken over by another country, they are happy where they are and where they belong as a property of Denmark. Denmark offers free health care and free education and very good benefits for the people of Greenland, something that the U.S doesn’t do. The U.S has had universally free education for only a little over 100 years, that’s not that long of a time if you put time into perspective.
Denmark has already granted the U.S a space force base, maybe if we just asked nicely and gave them something in return President Trump could set up his idea of the Golden Globe in Greenland just as he wanted. This could help the reputation of Americans and also help our military. In retrospect this could be a win-win situation for both parties. Denmark and Greenland get extra protection from one of the biggest militaries on the planet while the U.S.A gets what they want with their Golden Globe plan and seeming like a nice older sibling protecting a smaller country in the eyes of other countries.
Invading Greenland can end up being one of the biggest mistakes in recent history, the U.S.A should not invade Greenland to avoid causing a war.
