The harmony of the various instruments and excitement fill the air.
On Wednesday, November 19th, the annual string fest will be presented by the AISD fine arts. Various schools within AISD will participate in this event. This is a chance for a lot of the beginner orchestra players to showcase their orchestra skills.
This is the 51st string festival. So it is a special event for a lot of teachers because they get to see students perform as beginners in orchestra and how much they have progressed. Bowie Orchestra teacher, David Jarrot, really enjoys this event because of those reasons and has been a big part of this event for years.
¨Strings fest is near and dear to my heart because I gave my first performance at the strings festival ¨ Orchestra teacher Jarrot says ¨I actually ran this event for around twenty years. ¨
This event is especially special for the senior orchestra students because they get to see how far they have come from when they were that age. A lot of the seniors participated in this event when they were beginners in orchestra, so it is a full-circle moment for them. A lot of the seniors also get to be involved in the festival and get to help the beginner students. Senior Noah Dougherty, the president of the orchestra, has really enjoyed the festival.
¨This orchestra string festival is special to me because i remember doing this when i was first starting out orchestra as a middle schooler ¨Senior Noah Dougherty says ¨seeing the growth from where i have come is astounding and getting to help the new players is a way to give back to something that is so special.¨
The string festival is a fun-filled day for people who attend. They get to listen to music that has been rehearsed for months. This is an open event, so friends and family are allowed to attend and see all the hard work that has been put in by the beginners.
The string festival is a way for the older orchestra students to mentor the beginner students. The older students get to help them tune their instruments and sometimes even get to play the songs along with the beginners.
¨My favorite part about the string festival is getting to help the younger students ¨Senior Mateo Bennet says ¨I got to help the students tune their instruments and helped them play the correct notes on their songs¨
