The Bowie choir held their annual “Choir cabaret,” which was their final performance of the year; it was held on May 1-3. The Choir cabaret is a free performance that allows the bowie choir to showcase their talents. The choir cabaret is a special performance that takes place at the end of the year and has a theme.
The cabaret format usually consists of short song performances as opposed to the traditional performance which usually follows one narrative. Choir cabaret has the theme of this show being “From the screen to stage.” Junior Spencer Findley helped choreograph the cabaret show.
“Choir Cabaret consists of a lot more dancing and performing then a normal choir show does, so we have to prepare for both the music and choreography for it,” Findley said. “The cabaret focused on both music and dancing so we made sure to incorporate both sides of the spectrum.”
With this show being different from the traditional choir cabaret show format it comes with more challenges. Since this is the final performance for the year for choir there is a lot of pressure to make the show good. Senior Louis Olmeda was one of the performers in the choir cabaret.

“The most challenging part of creating this show was memorizing because most people are in more than one part of the show so you have to have everything memorized and plan around that,” Olmeda said. “The show was also really rushed so we had a really quick turn around.”
With the theme for this show being “from the screen to the stage” there were a lot of fun songs included. There were songs from popular movies and shows ranging from “Grease” to “Annie,” this was a chance for everyone to hear a song they enjoy as they had songs from multiple different genres. Senior Ava Clarke enjoyed participating in choosing the songs.
“Some of the songs we played “Hopelessly Devoted To You”, “Lets Go To The Movies” and “I’ve Had the Time of My Life,” senior Clarke said “It was really fun getting to pick songs because it catered to a lot of different people.”
The planning for this show is pretty intense as the people who plan it get less than a month to plan it. Seniors get to pick the theme for the cabaret. They hold auditions for the show and after they pick who will be in the show they start choreography. The preparation for this show includes rigorous after school rehearsals. Choir teacher Aaron Bourgeois had a big part in planning the choir cabaret.
“The seniors really helped make this show possible, they helped with the younger grades,” Bourgeois said. “This show came together really well.”
According to the students, collaboration was important in this show because there are a lot of moving parts. This show included choreography as well as music, so there was a lot of team work needed so it would all come together harmoniously. Senior Abby Laine discusses the collaboration for this show.
“Me and the other directors really made sure to communicate with each other and checked in on all of the acts to try and carry out everyone’s vision in the most efficient ways possible,” Laine said. “We also worked with the production crew and they helped with the logistical side of things.”
