A sorrowful feeling floods throughout the hallways as news that beloved assistant principal, Hector Munoz is moving to San Antonio. This absence will be felt by students and staff alike.
Munoz has made a big impact in students’ lives here at Bowie and with principal Mark Robbinson on sick leave until February, the absence in the office has been felt. Sophomore, Jayden Pratt has had their life positively influenced by Munoz.
“Mr. Munoz was always very kind and he made me feel really safe and secure at the school,” Pratt said. “I’m going to miss him standing at the front door of the school and giving us fist bumps.”
Munoz left a lasting impact on the school and will forever be remembered. Although, he didn’t always start out being an assistant principal.
“After teaching Social Studies for 10 years, I had the opportunity to get my master’s degree in educational leadership and I could impact more students outside of the classroom,” Munoz said. “I took the leap into Administration and haven’t looked back.”
After Munoz decided to become an assistant principal, he had a positive impact on Bowie. However, Munoz didn’t just become an assistant principal to get a nice office.
“My favorite part of my job is the students, the fact that every day is a different day,” said Munoz. “I can respond to removing snakes, chasing peacocks or possums; to looking for kids who are lost and many more adventures.”
Munoz appreciates his students and does his best to make sure every student at Bowie is taken care of. As the day to leave creep closer, Munoz has a lot of emotions.
“I don’t tend to not have many emotions’ but as the days get closer to me turning in my keys,” Munoz said. “I seem to be getting a bit teary eyed as Friday approaches and I see Bowie and all Bulldogs in my rear-view mirror.”
Although Munoz had an emotional departure from Bowie, there will always be a place for him. Even though he is moving on, Bowie will forever be a piece of him.
“Bowie will remain a special place in my heart; I was welcomed with open arms, staff always checking on me, students always giving me love and respect,” Munoz said. “Bowie has a long tradition, and I hope that Bowie will remember me in that tradition and know that I truly love it here and will always miss Bowie and the people that bring it to life.”
