Germany to U.S: Meet foreign exchange student, Luise Hackmann

Luise Hackmann, Reporter

Hey! My name is Luise and I am an foreign exchange student 20/21 from Germany. I have been here for three months now and I love it!

Even though it’s probably very different then it would be without Covid-19, I am very happy that I have the opportunity to be here and I’ve already made some great experiences in the US.

I went camping with my host family, had some great American and Mexican food, enjoyed the nice weather, got to know many new people and of course went to a real high school.

I’ve also got to know the American culture a little bit more. Especially in the last few weeks I’ve experienced some traditional American holidays, like Halloween and Thanksgiving, and it was awesome.

I think I’ve never seen that much Halloween decoration in my entire life before because Halloween is very small in Germany and most people only have a pumpkin. It was fun and I got a lot of candy. I also watched some nice halloween movies, which was great.

This week I had my first Thanksgiving and it was amazing! I think usually it is a little bit different and we also had to change our first plans because of Covid, but it was great. We had some really good traditional food and I really enjoyed it to spend some time with my host family.

I think it is a great tradition because it is very important to be thankful for everything you have and to enjoy spending time with your family! I’m really thankful for these great experiences.

I’m looking forward to the next months and of course to the Christmas time.
