Grey’s Anatomy

The hit show “Grey’s Anatomy” came out on September 28 with their 14th season premiere. Created in 2005, Grey’s Anatomy is a drama series that focuses on the main surgical interns and their positions within the hospital as they go about their lives. The show is based on the character Meredith Grey, but follows a number of other surgeons around the hospital, Mercy West.

I have watched all 13 seasons over Netflix and I am caught up with the new season as well. I have loved all the seasons as they always leave you on the edge of your seat. However, after so many seasons it begins to become repetitive and depressing.

There has been 172 episodes and in almost all of them either someone dies or almost dies, or everyone dies. It’s exciting for the first few episodes of the season, but towards the end of each season it becomes tiring and hard to watch because they keep killing off new patients. Until what’s remaining at the end of the each season is the few characters they haven’t killed off.

Of course there are happy moments where patients live, but overall it can be overwhelming and heartbreaking to watch people die and see their families react. Especially if you’re watching with a past event or history with death in the family or close friends, it can hit close to home.

I am hoping that the creators and writers of the show will try to switch it up a little more and add more comedy to break up the sad, hard to watch episodes. Of course it should still be a drama and have the anticipation of whether or not the patient will die, but I believe adding some funny parts could make the show all around suitable for more people and attract new viewers.

The addition of new characters help the show create different events and story lines that can happen on a particular given season. Already in the past 14 seasons, there’s been so many plot twists. We have already seen a shooter, fire, car crashes, a plane crash, and various deaths from diseases and freak accidents.

There needs to be new ideas written into this show, however as previously mentioned there isn’t much else that can be shown. They could possibly add new characters and not kill them off, however adding new characters would change “Grey’s Anatomy”, the show we all have come to know and love.

Therefore, I believe that they should not have created a new season. I will watch some episodes but I am getting tired of seeing characters I’ve grown an attachment for, die. This show will forever stay repetitive and static unless the writers try to take a different approach and incorporate more lighthearted humor and moments.
