Aquarium club

There are many creative and exciting clubs here at Bowie, one of them being the aquarium club.
After the previous teacher hosting the club moved to a different school district, science teacher Ann Marie Hutcheson has decided to take on the role of teacher sponsor.
“I teach aquatic science, so this [club] was a natural fit,” said Hutcheson.
Hutcheson’s goal in the club is to have fun while learning about aquatic science and help with some projects around the school that have to do with aquatics.
“I am hoping to get students interested in setting up and maintaining aquariums in the science department and at other places around campus,” said Hutcheson.
Hutcheson has run into some obstacles in trying to make sure students will be able to help and complete these projects. The school renovations that occurred during this past summer have made it difficult for the aquarium club to be able to assist with the tasks.
“We are rebuilding [because] the aquariums were not able to be maintained over the summer due to construction limiting [our] access,” said Hutcheson.
Hutcheson is very excited to be able to sponsor the club and has had a love for aquatics since a young age that she would like to share with students.
“As a small child, when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer was always a mermaid!” said Hutcheson.
