App of the week: retro highway
April 25, 2018
This week I have had the pleasure of downloading a little game called Retro Highway.
Playing my first game, I realized how nostalgic this game made me feel. Tge game has a certain 8-bit charm to it. The game is fairly fun. The gameplay is simple and fun, don’t crash and go for stunts as well as close calls all while collecting coins.
The game has a certain aura to it that keeps the player entertained all while calling me back for more. The replay-ability factor is certainly there and that is what makes this game so addicting.
There are ads unfortunately tacked to the game however, they pop up very rarely and not enough to get annoyed at.
There are a few cons to the game however. There were two that stuck out to me the most. The fist of which is that the nitro button which sits on the right side of the screen to boost the player and get them more distance in a shorter amount of time. However, it’s a powerup that will inevitably lead to your demise.
The nitro button simply gives the player too much speed, which is uncontrollable and leaves you to crash into an incoming car.
My second complaint is that the upgrade system is too basic. There are three power ups to upgrade; the two times coin collector, the magnet, and the shield. Apart from rarely being seen, the upgrades are simply not worth it when you can use your hard earned coins to purchase a new rider that has more control and more speed.
Overall, I would recommend this game because of the feelings of nostalgia that it gives me, as well as the replay-ability.
