App of the week: DOKDO
February 21, 2018
This week I found myself playing a game called DOKDO. This game is a relatively simple to learn game. It’s a battleship type game where you go from island to island in search of resources to further upgrade your ship.
In the week that I’ve had this game, I have noticed a few things; there seems to be a small market system in place that allows for some exploitation, I also noticed that the game seems relatively short.
The market system in place is interesting, there is an idle activity that allows for the player to fish while near an island and in doing so you can sell the fish or use them for upgrades. I however, found myself to hate this fishing system, because the player can just leave their phone on for a few minutes and come back to a large amount of fish to sell or utilize when upgrading. I thought this was particularly ridiculous when you can upgrade the haul size which allows for further exploitation of this mechanic.
The second thing that I noticed about the game was that it seems very lacking in the content department. The idea is to claim all of the islands on the map which can be easily accomplished due to the upgrade system being very basic. With an upgrade system so undeveloped the game was easy to beat and the upgrades were very easy to claim.
Overall, the game was fun for the week that I played it. I found myself very addicted at times and I just couldn’t put it down. However, the lack of content and the exploitation of certain game mechanics was fairly easy to look over if you don’t invest in the game for too long.
