Women’s Rights Rally of 2018
January 22, 2018
On January 20, 2018 women across the United States protested their lack of rights. There were rallies, marches, and petitions all because how our President and government has limited the rights of women.
I went to the women’s rally in Austin, Texas because I don’t think it is fair that there are completely different gender standards in our society. Men and women are looked at like they live in two completely different worlds. Women are supposed to be classy yet flirty and be a mans prize. Men are strong and take care of their girl because she is weak. This shouldn’t be the way our world sees each gender. There are things that men can’t do and women have to fill those roles. We are not something that a man wins after saving us. We shouldn’t have to work up to stereotypes of our sex.
Being in an environment such as the women’s march gives me such an empowering feeling. Seeing all the other women who have been taken advantage of, been told they weren’t enough, who have been put down made me feel like I wasn’t alone and like I could do anything. Knowing that there is a whole community of people who have been were I have been makes me feel like I could conquer the world.
Women work in jobs that seemed to “manly” before, but it is still hard for a women to make it to the top of their companies because we are still not taken seriously. Women fill roles as firefighters, police officers, CEO’s, and so many other jobs that they were always told that they wouldn’t be able to have because they were born a certain way.
And when someone says they are a feminist- it doesn’t mean that they believe that women are superior to men. Being a feminist means that all genders and sexes should be seen as equal. No one is more superior to someone else because they are a male or female, they have a different shade of skin, or have a different sexual orientation. We are all still humans and should be treated as such.
