While most seniors at Bowie are in a hurry to grow up and move on from their adolescence, Skylar Wolsch-Gallia is in no rush to let go of her youth. She is going to get a tattoo on her 18th birthday to show off her individuality and keep a part of her childhood with her.

“[The tattoo] is one of my favorite quotes [because] it reminds me to always to stay true to myself and because it’s a Robin Williams quote,” Senior Wolsch-Gallia said.

It was no surprise to her family and friends that she was planning on getting a tattoo because Wolsch-Gallia is known to be a very artistic and creative individual.

“Skylar is the kind of artsy, mysterious person that seems quiet before you get to know her,” Senior Hannah Rutt said. “She is very headstrong, something that I admire greatly about her.”

Wolsch-Gallia has decided to choose one of her favorite Robin Williams’ quotes to tattoo on her arm.

“It’s going to be the quote, ‘You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.’ in black cursive letters,” Wolsch-Gallia said.

Because she has grown up watching Robin Williams, she has always felt a strong connection his persona and what he stood for.

“Robin Williams has always been a hero to me even if I didn’t know it when I was younger,” said Wolsch-Gallia. “[He] makes me laugh or smile, I’m even watching his old stand up shows now. He made so many him people laugh while he was alive.”

Even though the pain of the needles would be enough to scare someone out of getting a tattoo, Wolsch-Gallia is too excited to even worry about it.

“I have a very high pain tolerance so I am not as worried about the pain,” said Wolsch-Gallia.

Wolsch-Gallia’s excitement  for this tattoo has strongly developed throughout the time she  has known one of her close friends.

“I can’t remember exactly when [Skylar] first told me that she was interested in getting a tattoo, but her interest in it has definitely grown over the past year or so,” Rutt said.

Her parents have known that she has been aspiring to have this meaningful quote tattooed on her arm for some time now so they believe that this is the right decision to her.

“My parents have allowed me to get a tattoo because they trust that I can make the right decisions,” Wolsch-Gallia said. “They also know that I think things through, that I don’t just rush into things.”

Her mother, Bobbi Gallia, completely supports her especially since she has a few tattoos of her own. Gallia doesn’t think that her daughter will regret this tattoo because she doesn’t regret getting any one of her tattoos.

“No, I don’t think I’ll regret the tattoo,” Wolsch-Gallia said. “I have thought a lot about this tattoo and [I’m not] rushing it.”

Much like her mother, Wolsch-Gallia loves tattoos and is planning on acquiring more in the future.

“Yes, I would like to get many more tattoos,” Wolsch-Gallia said. “I don’t think I’ll get anymore quotes but I will get ones that have meaning to me.”

She’s especially not going to regret getting this quote on her arm because she’s planning on going into a career that is becoming increasingly more accepting of tattoos.

“I am planning to become a veterinarian and I think the world is becoming more open about tattoos in the workplace so in the future, this won’t be much of a problem,” Wolsch-Gallia said.

This tattoo is going to be a great new way to express herself and her personality, Wolsch-Gallia is more than ready to share who she is with the world.

“I do not think [people’s opinion of me] change, people will see me as a more casual person,” Wolsch-Gallia said.

Wolsch-Gallia has been admired by some of her closest friends for her ingenuity and just being herself.

I don’t believe she will regret [this],” Rutt said. “Skylar has the kind of personality that, when she decides she wants to do something, she will stick with it.”

Her friends and family have noticed that she has been acting very responsibly by not rushing into getting a random tattoo and instead choosing one that she has actually meticulously thought out.

“[Skylar] is one of my greatest passions. She amazes me more and more everyday. She is becoming such an incredible lady,” Gallia said.
