Senior Blake Moyer is a dedicated member of Bowie High School choir and is currently the 2017 – 2018 choir president, while outside of school he is a hardworking Boy Scout ready to help his community. Recently, Moyer has been in the process of completing his Eagle Project, which helps him become an Eagle Scout, the highest rank available in the Boy Scouts of America organization.

As his Eagle Project, Moyer has begun renovations to the choir room to improve the look and sound the space provides. He explained the process it takes to perform such a momentous project and the responsibility one must take on to do so.

“If you actually look up all the requirements you have to do from the first rank scout to Eagle, there’s over three hundred and something requirements. So this is just one of the many, and it’s probably the biggest and most important one because you’re leading and planning your own project yourself, and it took a lot of planning before we even got to this point. It was a lot of this and getting donations and a whole bunch of other stuff,” said Moyer.

Out of all the things he could have chosen to do his project on, Moyer chose choir because of the passion he has for the activity. To him, the choice was obvious as he has grown enthusiastic about choir since he first began in third grade.

“The reason I am doing this is because I really love choir and I love singing, and I’m the choir president so I feel like I’m giving back to an organization that has really given me a lot over the years and they’re really training you to sing better and sight read. I’ve grown so much as a singer that they need something in return,” said Moyer.

Moyer focused on improving the look and feel of the choir room, having volunteers help him paint the walls to make the space more inviting for people recently joining choir. Moyer shared his reasoning for the changes and how he believes it will make a positive impact for newcomers and help create a more constructive learning environment.

“It would make the choir room less about what’s going on and happening in the room, and more about what you are going to be learning. I think it is going to help future students focus more in class on what they need to learn and their first impression of choir will be a lot better as well,” said Moyer.

Along with all the planning on his part, Moyer had many friends and adult volunteers assisting him in the remodeling. He commented on what the help from others meant to him on this great feat of achievement in the Boy Scouts.

“I feel very gracious. It’s very humbling to know all these people come here to help you and I think it’s great that we have all these people here that just want to help volunteer and work and get some service done,” said Moyer.
