Halloween on a Budget
October 26, 2017
Halloween is really a free-for-all when it comes to making or getting costumes. Some people put in a ton of work and get all dressed up with matching costumes with their friends, or go get their nails and hair done. There is another group of people who don’t put in the work and try to find the cheapest costume to wear for halloween. I find myself in the second group. So, this is a how-to guide on how to be cheap on halloween.
The first thing you need are decorations. But not just any decorations, but the cheapest decorations you can find. Decorations are cheap and at a reasonable price at your local Walgreens. You can pick up their Walgreens Haunted HourGlass, Disney Day of the Dead Copper Black with Silver and Purple, and Walgreens Animated Doorbell which are all priced at each store, but they are all buy one get one 50% off (all shown in the pictures).
The next halloween project is the pumpkin. At H-E-B they have $4 pumpkins outside that you can carve into whatever your cheap heart desires.
The next order of business is getting the cheapest candy to hand out. H-E-B has well priced bags of candy. The cheapest candies on online record were Mars Mixed Chocolate Variety Halloween bag for $5.03, Mars Chocolate Favorites & More Halloween for $5.03, and Kit Kat Halloween White Chocolate Crisp Wafers for $2.68. Adding onto the food of the holiday, there are cheap Daily Knead Halloween Pumpkin Face Cookies for $2.58, which are a little slice of heaven.
Next comes the biggest part- the costume. There are tons of different types of costumes to choose from, but here are five of the classics and cheapest-
- Costume number one is the classic black cat; you can wear all black, any type of black paint or makeup to make a nose and whiskers, and buy cheap cat ears online for two dollars.
- Any striped red and white striped hat and shirt and you can be Where’s Waldo.
- Wear a shirt that says, or you write in white marker “Error 404- Costume Not Found”
- Wear a plain yellow t-shirt and blue jeans and be Rick from Rick and Morty.
- And last but not least is be Tom Cruise from Risky Business and wear a white button up dress shirt with boxers and white crew socks.
In total, you should have spent less than $50 on your halloween budget, which is not to bad of a price if you don’t want to spend all of your money on one day of the year.
