Homecoming Dance
October 18, 2017
The homecoming dance is an annual event that happens at Bowie High School. It is held in the courtyard and fine arts building. This years homecoming dance is on October 21, 2017. To buy your ticket you can buy it during school for five dollars, or at the door of the dance at 10 dollars.
“I went to the homecoming dance last year and I really enjoyed it. I went with all my friends and we had a ton of fun together. It was really cold because it was in october, but because we were in the cafeteria dancing most of the time, we weren’t freezing,” sophomore Riyo Adler said.
The dance serves a lot of food from four different food trucks in Austin.
“The food was really good, but I wish there were more options. There were only a few different options to choose from, but I still liked them,” Adler said.
In the courtyard, there is a large screen that played High School Musical 1 and High School Musical 2. The movies were played in the pit, with room to dance to the High School Musical classics.
“Last year they played High School Musical in the pit, and it was kinda funny at first because I didn’t know they were going to, but than they played the second one and I was kinda down for it,” sophomore Kaitlyn Lu said.
There were decorations around the school. There were candles, lights, lanterns, drinks, tables, chairs, laser lights, string lights, tulle, logistics. The also had a brick wall backdrop to take pictures at.
“I didn’t take a picture at the picture area because there was a long line, but there were plenty of other places to take pictures. The decorations were really cool because you could tell the school put a lot of energy and work into it. The lanterns on the big tree in the center of the courtyard were my favourite because they were the prettiest,” sophomore Riley Hughes said.
The attire is formal. The girls wear dresses and the boys wear slacks, ties, khakis, dresses, suits.
“Last year was fun but don’t like dressing up that much, but I don’t think it matters that much if you don’t dress that fancy,” junior Liam Coulston.
Many say as freshman that they didn’t or don’t know how to dress for homecoming, in fear of being either over dressed or underdressed.
“Last year I was worried that I would dress to fancy or not fancy enough, and asked my friend who wasn’t that helpful and said ‘Dress however you want’ but that made sense when I got to the dance. There were people wearing converse with their dresses, but also girls wearing five inch heels with their dresses. It is really a free for all when deciding what to wear to the dance,” Lu said.
