Fundraising concert for Bowie Guitar
October 5, 2017
Spirit nights at fast food places and restaurants are a common way for Bowie programs to raise money. However the Bowie Guitar program found something a little different.
On October 7, Jorge Caballero, a professional guitarist, will be performing at the AISD performing arts center. This performance, put on by Austin Classical Guitar, will help fund the Bowie guitar program by donating every ticket marked with the words “Bowie High School” in the comments to the program.
“The money raised will be to help pay for our students transportation and entry fees into Guitar competitions around the state and country and also for any supplies we will need in the future.” teacher Jody Moseley said.
Austin Classical Guitar will be orchestrating the event.
“They are local non-profit organization that helps build classical guitar programs in local schools.” Moseley said.
Although Moseley has not seen Jorge Caballero perform before, he has enjoyed other events that Austin Classical Guitar has put on.
“They also put on lots of community concerts that feature amazing talents.” Moseley said.
However, Caballero’s performance will be different from artists who have previously performed with Austin Classical Guitar.
“[Instead] of the guitarist performing a piece that was written for guitar he is going to be performing orchestra pieces that have been arranged to be performed on guitar.” Moseley said.
This event, in Moseley’s eyes, is more than just a way to raise money for the program.
“I hope that the students will learn that there are many different ways and types of playing types of music for guitar.” Moseley said.
The concert will also include a an art exhibit and food from Caballero’s home country, Peru, to kick things off. This event will help students learn about different cultures, music styles and all of the tickets “linked” to Bowie will benefit the schools Guitar program.
