Hi, my name is Andrew Covert, and in my sophomore year, I started my newspaper journey in Mr. Reeves’ digital media class. Back then, I was really quiet and shy. Most days I would just sit in the back of the class with my friend Cole Wong and keep to myself. At first, I honestly wasn’t sure if I wanted to join the newspaper because it seemed like a lot of work and responsibility, but eventually I decided to give it a shot, and I’m really glad that I did.
Being part of the newspaper ended up becoming one of the best parts of my high school experience. It helped me become more involved around campus and pushed me out of my comfort zone. Through the newspaper, I learned how to use editing software, work with high-end cameras, and cover events happening around Bowie. It also helped me meet so many people I probably never would have talked to otherwise.
Ryan Zuniga, thank you for always being willing to help out whenever I needed it. You’re one of the most selfless people I know and always put others before yourself. Also, thank you for always keeping the Instagram streak going whenever I couldn’t or didn’t want to. I really appreciate everything you’ve done, and I’m glad I got to work with you over the past few years.
Will Olenick, thank you for teaching me so much during my time on staff. Whether it was going to football games together to take pictures or sitting in the back of class playing hacky sack, it was always fun working with you on the Dispatch. You made the newspaper something I genuinely looked forward to every day.
Cole Wong, thank you for helping me get through digital media and encouraging me to join the Dispatch junior year. I’m really grateful you pushed me to join because I probably wouldn’t have had this experience without you. Also, thank you for always helping out and taking pictures whenever I couldn’t make it to events.
To the leadership team, thank you for making the newspaper such a great environment to be a part of. You all put in so much work behind the scenes that most people never even see, and it really does make the program enjoyable for everyone on staff. I appreciate all the time and effort you put into keeping the Dispatch successful.
Lastly, I want to thank Bowie for continuing to support and fund the Dispatch. Being able to create newspapers and distribute them around campus is such a unique experience, and it’s something I’ll always appreciate being a part of. The newspaper gave me memories, friendships, and experiences that I’ll carry with me long after high school.
