Teachers at Bowie give their students lots of assignments and homework, so much so that students feel stressed and overworked.
Personally, I don’t feel like we students are as overloaded with work as some may say. While yes, teachers here might give students lots of work to do, I feel as though it’s all necessary when it comes to the learning and understanding of the material.
Anytime I learn something, I need to practice it. The work that my teachers give me helps me better understand the subject matter, the more opportunities I’m given to study, the better.
Heavy work loads give students the chance to fully understand what they’re learning. Teaching students a topic doesn’t do the students any good if they can’t practice and apply their knowledge.
Not only do the assignments teachers give their students help them learn, but it also prepares them for future jobs. Jobs are going to require you to put in effort and do the work that’s given to you, which is why the workload in high school is good. It prepares students for the real world they will inevitably be a part of.
Having lots of work, while it may be stressful to students, can actually help them learn how to stay organized. Lots of work requires students to keep organized, causing them to learn a good life skill.
I understand the students who believe they are being overworked here at Bowie. I too have felt the stress of having too many assignments and not enough time, especially because of my extracurricular activities that take up most of the time I would have to finish work after school.
When I have a fair amount of homework, I tend to get very stressed, especially with participating in the theater program here at Bowie, and taking aerial silk classes twice a week. I have found that using up any free time in other classes to work on homework is an effective way to get a majority of my work done at school, so I have less I need to do at home.
I have also found that creating an after school schedule for homework can be really beneficial, even more so when I manage to put my phone away so it won’t distract me. By making a schedule I am able to finish the assignments that have the closest due date to avoid turning in assignments late.
Teachers assign work that is necessary for the education of their students. With high expectations at Bowie, students can only assume that they will have lots of work to do so they are able to reach their fullest potential, which is why I don’t believe that the students here are overworked.
