As we all know Bowie has a big problem with vandalism and destruction of property. Most of us only know of this side of Bowie but, it was not all bad. About 5 or 6 years ago before the pandemic, Bowie was a clean school. This is when everything went downhill from then.
Bowie should be a clean, dry school that is free from vandalism. This should be fine. We are at school; here to learn, prepare for college, and create amazing friendships. High school gives you the opportunity to make plans for the future.
The vandalism means; stealing locks of stalls, no soap, opened and empty paper towel containers, graffiti inside the stalls, graffiti at the entrance, empty vapes on the ground, 2nd hand smoke, and so many more deeds from Bowie’s individuals. This is not how we want to be seen as a school and community.
When I walked into the bathroom this morning I walked into 4 stalls in a row with no lock on the door until I finally found one with nothing wrong with it. However, the problem is that there is always something different wrong in the bathrooms.
Bowie is not the only school with problems at their school. Westlake, Lake Travis, and Lasa. Westlake students are getting arrested for making threats against the school. Lake Travis has graffiti all over the area from teens and reckless adults. Lasa has students cheating on their AP exams. Every school has their own problems but it is how you solve them that makes you stand out.
To fix these problems we need to make a stand in our community. We could have more hall monitors in the halls checking the bathrooms when they make their runs. Also having lectures to make kids realize the things they are doing are not beneficial to anyone. These are just a couple of ideas that can further lead to a greater Bowie future.
This is right because school is where we come to learn. The main reason why students vandalize is because they want to rebel against the school system. They feel that they must break the rules to draw attention. Another reason would be to protest against the authority figure and school rules.
