This week, Bowie celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week by recognizing favorite things of staff members and creating opportunities for students to show their gratitude. Monday’s Character Strong fit session differed from the normal lesson plan by allowing students to make thank you notes for teachers across campus.
“The idea actually came from the Principal Panel with students,” Teacher Content Interventionist Wendy Uzzle said. “Students wanted to do something to appreciate teachers, and we knew it needed to be something that we could execute and turn around pretty quickly, so we modified the Character Strong schedule for the rest of the year and got those distributed.”
There are many ways for parents and students to show appreciation for teachers during this time. English teacher Chrissy Hejny created a list of every teacher’s favorite things to spark inspiration for gifts. The PTSA also contributed to Teacher Appreciation Week this year as they raised money gifts.
“The PTSA always does something called Build Up Bowie in the Spring when they raise a lot of money and do something to contribute to the campus,” Uzzle said. “This year they cleared $100 [for each teacher ]from our Amazon wishlists.”
Monetary donation, physical present, or words of affirmation, any form of appreciation is especially welcomed by teachers as the year comes to a close.
“It’s a nice little push to get to the end of the year,” Uzzle said.
