“Brain rot’’ is an inability to think clearly, or mental fogginess due to excessive screen time. What are the effects of screen time? What are the effects of Brain rot?
Since creating new languages and useless brain rot vocabulary, the impact it has had on the generation currently and for future generations has hurt not only the generations but also the English language. Brain rot has no true benefit over English, and by creating new slang, we’re dumbing down the language we all use.
The English language has evolved through different phrases, slang, and meanings. Brain rot first started when describing mental decline, and was then thought to be tied to spiritual beliefs, and since our knowledge about mental decline has advanced and evolved to today. Instead of talking in words that benefit their learning vocabulary, the affected use words like “skibidi toilet,” “sigma,” “rizz,” “gyatt” and more. Most words stand for something but have no clear meaning or purpose.
Brain rot is harmful to kids in a growing environment and adapting to the words being said around them, and this quickly goes from over screens to in-person. It’s essential that they don’t grow up using this type of language and vocabulary, but instead use words that benefit them and their learning vocabulary. Keeping kids away from brain rot language at younger ages allows them to fill their vocabulary words that benefit them and others.
When using brain rot it slowly starts affecting the way you speak and write. Brain rot essentially rots your brain down and starts showing signs of people having reduced vocabulary. People start opting for simpler sentences, abbreviations, and alternative ways and words to communicate. It dumbs down the complexity of the language, making people lazier with words and writing.
Since the rise of brain rot, Gen Z and Gen Alpha have more commonly used brain rot to communicate. Brain rot and excessive screen time can create negative effects like desensitization, lowered attention span, difficulty organizing information, solving problems, making decisions, and recalling information. Brain rot starts from watching pointless, low-quality content on different web apps, such as TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat, and more.
Although each generation may have its own language, I say that the language should at least be beneficial. It may be fun to exercise new words that are far from the norm, but brain rot starts out silly and fun until the negative effects come along.
Brain rot can be prevented in many easy ways. For example; to prevent the overconsumption of useless videos you can set limits for yourself and create set times for screen time. You can watch videos and use apps that give essential information that are still appealing and entertaining instead of doom-scrolling and stuck into a rabbit hole of feed. You can make sure you are reading and keeping your vocabulary in check, getting the knowledge you need.
Brain rot has made a negative impact on the generations and has dumbed down the people and the language. Brain rot and screen time can be fun when you are in the moment, but once you’re out you’ll realize all the negative effects.
