The backflipping pop icon Benson Boone strikes again, dropping his new song ‘Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else’ earlier this week. Embracing feelings of longing and moral indecision, Boone tells the story of running into someone from his past while waiting on a date.
Starting off slow with a more electronic back beat, the song quickly speeds up, switching to a more typical drum beat. The instrumentals occasionally fade out when Boone is making a deeper, more personal statement, which really emphasizes the emotions in the song. Boone takes on a very third person narration role for the song developing a chain of events even saying “Benny don’t do it” referring to himself. The song switches from a guilty feeling saying “I’m sorry I’m here for someone else” and “I really hope you’re doing well” to a tone of more longing where he admits he actually wants to be with this girl that he ran into. The song portrays a very relatable moment of running into someone from your past who is no longer in your life whether you want them to be or not. The song feels vulnerable and personal to Boone.
The song feels different than other Benson Boone songs coming off a little less strong, it doesn’t pack quite as much of a punch as many of his other songs. However Boone sets a very high bar, and the song is nevertheless a very high quality and catchy. The song felt very 2010’s, but not necessarily in a bad way. It was an amazing surprise to find new Benson Boone music, especially right before his appearance in Austin.
