Anticipation fills the crowd and the stage lights shine down on dancers as they perform their Annual Fall Showcase. From hip-hop, jazz, novelty, and tap, every year the Bowie Dance Department and Silver Star Dancers hold a Fall Showcase inviting students, family, and friends to watch them perform. This year, approximately 315 students ranging from freshman to seniors performed in the showcase.
“I think that the show went really well,“ sophomore dancer Claire Murry said. “We practiced for weeks prior and I think it paid off.“
The dancers spent around two to three hours at practice each day preparing for the Showcase. The practices included running dances, trying on costumes, stretching, and rehearsing on stage.
“It’s always fun to be on stage dancing,“ Murry says. “All of my friends are there and I get to dance with them, while also knowing my family is in the audience watching me.“
The Dance Department held two shows on separate nights. On both nights, the Bowie auditorium had a full crowd filled with family, friends, and supporters.
“I performed in 3 dances, novelty, jazz, and pom,” sophomore Star Dancer Cheyenne Scottle said. “Novelty was a bit tough because of the shoulder pads, but it was fun and I liked all the dances.”
During the Showcase, dancers performed to a mashup of multiple songs for their novelty dance, including the National Football League (NFL) theme song.
“I am proud of all of my friends and fellow dancers,” Scottle says. “Everyone did their best and all of our hard work and practice definitely was worth it.”.
This year, the Showcase consisted of soloists, trios, and group dances from different levels of classes.
“I also loved watching the athletes perform their dance, and so did the audience by how they reacted,” Scottle says. “It was funny to watch and they did great.”
Athletes from sports such as football, baseball, and soccer, performed a routine during the Showcase. The audience was filled with laughter and cheering due to the difference in confidence the dancers had compared to the athletes.
“I love dancing and the Dance Fall Showcase is definitely something I look forward to performing at every year.” Scottle says.
