Just before I left for prom my grandfather told me this: “Take this experience with you in your heart” This phrase from my usually silent grandfather, for an event as definitive as prom has had me thinking of my high school experience. When I joined Digital Media amidst a pandemic I could not have imagined how much the Dispatch would end up impacting me. The connections I’ve made have developed me to the person I am today and I am forever grateful. The people I’ve interviewed, my fellow staffers and Mr. Reeves I will take into my heart as I go onto college.
To Austin: When I first dragged you to do my first video I could not have imagined how far the program would go. Nothing I do would be possible without you and Alex. Thank you for dealing with my antics, while we’re working or when I’m kicking your ass in bowling. You have become so incredibly talented through these past three years on staff I cannot wait to see what you accomplish in college.
To Alex: It’s been such a pleasure not only working with you as a fellow online editor but as a friend. Like I said above, nothing that I do as an editor would be possible without you and Austin. Ever since that first video you have been one of my best friends. You guys inspire me everyday and I know that you will do great things at UT.
To Print Leadership: You guys are some of the finest journalists around. Thank y’all for dealing with my random conversations during class. Navigating this year and doing things such as House of Torment with y’all has been a blast. You guys have been an absolute joy to be on staff with. I know that every single one of you will do great things.
To the New Online Leadership: Wow! In just a year I’ve seen y’all change so much. Audrey, Will, and Gabby, I could not imagine a better trio to pass the torch to. I have seen y’all improve so much as journalists. It’s been amazing and so much fun to work with y’all. I know the Dispatch next year will be special because of y’all’s leadership. If y’all ever need something y’all will always know where to find me.
To Reeves: To the person that makes it all possible. Thank you. Ever since you let an energetic and kind of strange sophomore start making videos, my life changed for the better. These videos were not very good, but you saw the potential and allowed this online program and myself to grow in ways I don’t think I could have imagined. Thank you for being my mentor.
To my online staff: You guys are what makes this program so amazing. I am incredibly grateful for the time I’ve had with you guys and seeing y’all grow. You guys are all so talented, whether you continue journalism or not I know y’all will do great things.
I am incredibly satisfied with my time as a reporter for The Dispatch. The teamwork, leadership and community that the program has given me will allow me to succeed as I pursue a business degree at Texas A&M University. The bonds and experiences here will forever change my world. Thank you.
