It’s hard to believe that high school is over. These past four years as part of the Dispatch have provided me with so many invaluable experiences that I will forever cherish. When I first started in J-1 as a freshman, I was skeptical about continuing along the newspaper track. However, with encouragement from Mr. Reeves and my family, I stuck with it, and for that, I am forever grateful.
During my sophomore year, the support from Mr. Reeves and the leadership team allowed me to find my interests and strengths. As a result, I had the opportunity to pursue sports journalism, which enabled me to develop into the writer that I am today. Additionally, the past two years, I have had the pleasure of editing the sports section for the newspaper. In doing so, I have had the ability to obtain unique leadership and communicative skills. As I move beyond high school, I know that my time on The Dispatch will serve as forever useful in my life.
Additionally, I met some of my best friends through The Dispatch. People that I otherwise would have never met became some of my favorite people to be around. The community that’s created within the newspaper class is truly irreplicable. Because of that, I’d like to thank those that contributed to building such a unique community.
To Mr. Reeves: Every award that I have won the past three years is directly reflective of your efforts to push me to be the best writer and editor possible. It is because of you that I have been so successful. Without you, I would never have gained the confidence needed to become a better journalist and a better person. Thank you for all the work that you have put in that has allowed me to grow and develop as a member of the Dispatch. I will always be proud to say that I was on your staff.
To Leadership: I’ve worked with three different leadership teams. My sophomore year, the leadership team helped me integrate into the program and instilled the values of discipline and initiative that are needed to succeed as a journalist. My junior year, the leadership team never failed to make the class enjoyable, even during high-stress periods. Lastly, my senior year, the leadership team is especially special because they have been my peers in the newspaper class for at least the past three years. Kate and Mazzy, along with the rest of the executive editors, are so incredibly talented. I continue to look up to their ability to lead and create amazing content. To all the leadership teams, thank you.
To the Sports Team: For me, the Dispatch has always been about sports. The impact that the sports team has had on my life cannot be understated, and I will always appreciate the friendships that have formed within the sports team. I know that as I move forward in my life, the sports section will remain strong and continue to improve.
