It feels surreal to be writing this. It feels like I was in my freshman Digital Media class just yesterday, and now, there are only two weeks left until I am officially a high school graduate. To be frank, I wanted to graduate the second I walked through Bowie’s doors, but now that the day is just around the corner, it feels like I wished away everything too fast.
As I was choosing my freshman courses, I randomly stumbled across a class called “Digital Media”, and decided to take it. I was well aware of the fact that I had no journalism experience nor did I know what I was getting myself into, but I am forever grateful that I took that leap of faith. Three years later, I am now a retiring senior Reviews Editor.
To my parents: There are not enough words I can use to express the sheer amount of love and gratitude I have for the two of you. Thank you for always giving me unconditional love and support, as I know high school was a rough couple of years for me. You have taught me how to be resilient when I feel weak, to never shy away from a challenge, and to be the best version of myself. I can’t wait to live the future that you two helped me set up, I promise to always make you proud no matter where I go in life. Even though I’m moving to college in a few months, I know I will be okay as I start this new journey, because I will always have you guys in my corner <3
To my sister: As much as I want to stay and watch you grow, I think we both know I’d lose it if I spent a second longer in high school. You are the most talented, smart, and beautiful person I know, and I am sure nothing will change when I leave. The most important thing you taught me was how to be confident in myself (and follow a map…Target run 2024). I am not sure if I would even know the definition of confidence if it wasn’t for you. I can’t wait to see where life takes you, as I know you will do amazing, brilliant things <3
To The Dispatch: Out of all the programs at Bowie that I was a part of, I will miss this one the most. Thank you for every opportunity, success, and lesson you’ve given me. Here, I learned how to ask for help, speak up when necessary, and take pride in everything I do. I don’t think I would have some of the creative skills I have today if it wasn’t for this program. I can’t wait to see where this program goes, as I know everyone on staff is capable of great things <3
Sincerely,
Claire Scott
