Cross country competed on August 28 at The Woodlands, about an hour north of Houston, in their first race of the school year.

Members from both the boys and girls’s teams were present at the race.

“There was a lot of pushing and shoving, but everyone did their best in the race,” senior Matt Genin said.

The girls team placed fifth out of 20 competing teams, while the boys team placed 11th out of 35.

Senior varsity runner, Marissa Flournoy, placed third out of a daunting 129 runners that participated, additionally junior Carolyn Evans placed 15th. Senior varsity runner, Stephen Demerson, placed 39th and senior Jason Hart placed 63rd from a total of 221 runners that participated in the men’s division.

“After the race, we ate a whole lot of leftovers that we ordered from Jason’s Deli,” Genin said.

While a long ride home awaited them, spirits were high after a particularly successful meet.

“The coaches were very helpful, and that feeling was justified with how we all did at the meet,” Genin said.
