Earlier this month, the
Southern Interscholastic Press Association announced the winners of their 2023 annual writing and visual competitions. SIPA is aligned with the University of South Carolina, and members cover 15 states in the Southeast from Texas to Florida.
The Dispatch had a number of students win multiple awards. The print publication was named an All-Southern newspaper, and the website ranked Superior in the staff publication contest.
The following students won individual awards:
Amilia Velez – Entertainment/Feature Column – 1st place, and Entertainment Page – 1st place
Mazzy Warren – News Story – 1st place, and Front Page – 1st place
Lucille Price – Computer Art – 1st place, Front Page – 3rd place, and Front Page – 1st place
Asher Hagen – Editorial Cartoon – 2nd place, Infographic – 1st place, and Art Portfolio – 3rd place
Ava Wong – Alternative Storytelling – 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place (SWEEP)
Isabella del Nido – Center Spread – 1st place and 2nd place, Headline Package – 1st place, and Newspaper Portfolio – 1st place
Sophia Sanchez – Feature Page – 3rd place
Ben Tillisch – Sports Page – 1st place
Austin Ikard, Alex Edwards & Natalie Cullen – Digital Storytelling – 1st place, Social Media Promotion – 3rd place, and Social Media Storytelling – 2nd place
Last Friday, students participated in UIL competitions at Johnson Buda. The following students placed and three qualified directly for the regional competition in April.
