Silver Stars perform their last show of the year
May 3, 2022
As she goes down into the splits to hit her final pose, senior Silver Star captain Alyssa Coltharp realizes she has just finished performing her last performance as a Silver Star.
The spring show was a bittersweet performance, as it was the Silver Star’s last performance as a whole team for the 2021-2022 school year. The team put together three days of shows for students and families to watch. This year’s show was called “Unwritten.”
“We’ve been practicing some of these dances since January for contest season, but we had to reblock them to fit on the stage,” Coltharp said. “We’ve had early practices for about a month to prepare for show week! The practices are definitely worth it in the end because the show always ends up being amazing!”
Coltharp, along with the other seniors on the team, were honored during the spring show for all their hard work and dedication over the years. The directors, with the help of others, put together a senior spotlight slideshow to showcase each senior and celebrate their future.
“It’s very bittersweet to think this is the last time to perform with everyone,” Coltharp said. “I’ve bonded so much with this team in particular and am going to miss them all so much. I’ve really been trying to take it all in and cherish these final moments with everyone.”
The spring show is one of Silver Stars’ most popular events, as it showcases performances from all dance classes at Bowie. Different genres such as hip hop, jazz, contemporary, and more are shown in the spring show.
“My favorite part of the spring show is getting to perform for family and friends since not a lot of people come to contest because it is such a crazy long day,” Coltharp said. “It’s really nice to get to showcase all of our hard work. My favorite dance to perform is probably hip hop company. It is very high energy and one of my favorite dances we’ve done.”
