The tables were set up, the treats were there. Now it was time to convince new members to join. The club fair was an event at the beginning of the year, it would help clubs convince new members to join. A club that took many people by surprise was Star Wars Club.

This year Star Wars club has a lot of attention after the club fair, which attracted a lot of new members. According to sponsor Jeanne Westmoreland, club membership is way up.

We have probably doubled in membership since the club started two years ago. We got a lot of new members after this year’s club fair,” Westmoreland said .

Vice President junior Jake Lewis managed to take a picture of the room after the club fair. The photo has about over 20 kids in the room getting ready for the activities and socializing with friends.

“After the club fair, I took a photo and it was packed,” Lewis said.

“When there are new shows like The Mandalorian, we will discuss the latest episode,” Westmoreland said.

The club has also been doing multiple activities to make the club interesting and fun.

Lately, we have been watching segments of the movies. In the past, we have played Star Wars trivia or Star Wars board games,” Westmoreland said.

The club started in the year 2019-2020 students when Max Scofield who was vice president and Paul Boltoi who was president asked if she would like to sponsor the club. Both have graduated, but have left the club in good hands going forward.

“A student of mine and his friend in the 2019-2020 AP chemistry class asked if I would sponsor the club,” Westmoreland said.

When Boltoi graduated he passed the leadership on to current president, junior Colin Barnes.

“To an extent, it was more similar to a polling system where the last president, Paul, recommended me and the rest of the club voted to promote me to president. My involvement in the club garnered Paul’s attention which led to his recommendation.” Barnes said.

Barnes played a different role last year when he was not only a member, but before was also an unofficial recruiter, trying to get people to join the club.

“I acted more as a sort of unofficial recruiter, recommending the club to peers and providing information to those interested,” Barnes said.

Barnes said that the club, while small, is very enjoyable as the group knows each other well.

“We are able to focus on something we share, Star Wars, and while we do watch some of the movie, we do really concentrate on having discussions about our favorite series,” Barnes said. “We are a good group that communicates well. We are connected, especially at this time, in ways that we don’t get in other places.
