Climate change is a real issue

Climate change.

Global warming.

Scorched earth.

All of these names mean the same: The death of earth. Every single person will be affected by climate change and many already are; Maybe it’s not 100 degree weather or a drought but it might be a deadly snow storm or an extra strong hurricane.

I believe that climate change is the most pressing issue humanity has ever faced and one that should be the focus point of all our resources and technology at our hands. If we leave it unattended then we could be in a lot of trouble and leave an ugly scar on earth.

Here in Texas, according to NPR, 210 people died in the winter storm we experienced last February, and the reason that was so drastic is most likely because of how unstable our climate is.

Climate change is one of the only things in the world that impacts everyone without discrimination, and it is a pandemic of our making that we have to fix or risk extinction.

Experts think that the world has risen one degree celsius in the past century, something never before seen in all of history. According to the Washington Post we are losing 1.2 trillion tons of ice per year, and this could cause many oceanside cities to be swallowed up by the incoming tide.

I try to bike to places and not eat as much meat as I would like. All of these things help the environment. If anyone wants to see easy things to help fight climate change I would recommend checking out the ActNow program.

Some people think that the recent spike in heat that earth is experiencing is just earth’s natural cycle and that humans have nothing to do with it. This makes more sense than people that flat out think that climate change is fake and I can’t see how people can even think about that.

When I was a bit younger, every few years we would go to Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Last year we couldn’t go because the house that we rented got too close to the ocean. To be fair it’s a beach house, but when I heard we weren’t going this year it opened my eyes to how much of a problem climate change is.

Most people know of climate change but they think that it will only impact future generations. I believed this as well; I knew what climate change was and the dangers it poses to us but I didn’t really see it impacting me. It’s not like it’s 105 degrees in the winter, yet, but it’s a subtle thing and everyone needs to start to pay attention to it.
