With the sounds of trumpets following them, Principal Robinson, the student council presidents, and other staff members marched from the office into the academic building to award history teacher Wendy Uzzle the Teacher of the Year award. She was surprised with balloons, flowers, and presents.

This is Uzzle’s 15th year on staff and she is a graduate of Bowie. She is the sponsor for the 2022 Class Council and a co-sponsor for the student council.

“My initial reaction to being awarded was being overwhelmed with gratitude, I felt very honored to be considered,” Uzzle said. “The other teachers nominated are phenomenal and that doesn’t even begin to talk about all the other teachers on campus.”

Uzzle is known for her involvement in the whole Bowie community and commitment to her students. These qualities are just some of the reasons she was named this year’s Teacher of the Year. The Teacher of the Year award is given to a teacher that has had a long-lasting impact on their students and the Bowie community. The other teachers nominated were English teacher Jacob Morgan and music teacher Randy Cantu.

“I always say that there are too many great teachers at Bowie to just choose one teacher of the year or even just the three that were nominated,” Uzzle said.

Student council president Vanessa Nguyen works closely with Uzzle and thinks the teachers made the good decision choosing her as the recipient of the award.

“Ms. Uzzle has always been nothing but helpful to me and I couldn’t be happier to work with her for student council,” Nguyen said.
