Twisting through the air and slicing through the water, the Bowie Swim and Dive team competed in the 2021 Aggieland Invitational this past weekend.

A highly competitive meet composed of 20 high schools throughout the state, the Bowie swim team performed exceptionally, earning a spot in the top ten for both girls and boys. The girls placed 5th and the boys placed 7th.

Spanning across the entire day, swimmers in attendance competed in preliminary rounds in the morning, aiming to advance to the finals. Following the prelims, the top 16 swimmers in each event advanced to the finals. Swim and Dive Head Coach Laura Dubois is proud of her athletes’ perseverance.

“This was a fun, long, and highly competitive meet,” Dubois said. “We are still recovering from this 19-hour long day.”

The Bowie Dive team also performed in the Aggieland Invitational, seeking to best their opponents in the 1-meter competition. Sophomore Anabel Vohl appreciated her experience at the invitational, as it was held in one of the largest, most prestigious colleges in the state.

“Overall, I had a really fun time at the Aggieland Invitational,” Vohl said. “It was a really cool experience to dive at A&M’s facility.”

Texas A&M houses multiple eight-lane, 25-yard indoor pools, as well as a 25-meter diving well. Being at such a large venue, the Aggieland Invitational was not only enjoyable but also offered a learning experience, as well as an opportunity for the Bowie team to bond.

“I learned a lot about dives and that I need to become a better diver,” Vohl said. “My favorite part though was bonding with the team over the 16 hours that we were there.”
