Texas basketball off to a hot start

Early in the season, the Texas Longhorns basketball team is 4-0, with wins over UT Rio Grande, Davidson, Indiana, and #14 North Carolina. Texas defeated North Carolina in a 69-67 thriller to win the Camping World Maui Invitational tournament. Senior guard Matt Coleman has been the leader for Texas on offense, averaging around 16 points per game with 2 rebounds and 5 assists. Junior guard Andrew Jones is also getting regular playtime, averaging 10 points per game. Jones has beat Leukemia after being diagnosed in January 2018 and has big goals for this season. “I plan on being that guy, to be a reliable shooter, reliable playmaker and defend for this team,” Jones said. “So, I know I need to step up.” Another player worth watching as the season progresses is forward Greg Brown, the 6’9” 5-star recruit from Vandegrift High School. While his numbers look low now (9 PPG, 7 RPG), I expect these numbers to increase as the season progresses. Texas will have to continue to prove themselves as a team to watch out for, as they prepare for upcoming games against #12 Villanova and #2 Baylor.
