Bowie Band 2013 Sudler Shield Rceipient

Before winter break, the James Bowie High School Marching Band was selected as a recipient of the 2013 Sudler Shield by the John Philip Sousa Foundation, an award you are nominated for. Out of about 25 bands around the United States and across the globe, Bowie Band was chosen alongside a group from Japan, Canada, and Blue Springs, Missouri.

This is the highest achievement that any marching band can receive in the country. The Sudler Shield award is described as the following:

  1. To establish and support international standard of excellence in musical performance, marching execution, choreography and show design for high school, youth or international marching bands.
  2. To identify, recognize, and honor outstanding high school youth and international marching bands who are at a world class level of excellence.

A ceremony honoring the band’s achievement will be held in May.
